*Great* afternoon I’m really looking forward to their wedding coming up in a few weeks!

That leads me to the next bit of news: I’ve been accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA), an International, membership-based organization representing professional photographers skilled in the documentation of weddings and events in a candid, unobtrusive style. As a WPJA member, I join the ranks of some of the most talented wedding photojournalists in the world as judged by their technical, creative and visual aptitude.

I’m both honored and elated to earn membership acceptance into the Wedding Photojournalist Association – as the only photographer in Southeast Texas to have my work alongside the WPJA’s esteemed collection of professional wedding photojournalists is a monumental accomplishment.

Next up, a note to say Marius is shooting full-time with us now – we’ve been shooting weddings all over Southeast Texas for 4 years now, it’s about time All of our brides and grooms have gotten to know Marius and the stellar work he produces day in and day out. If you’ve seen wedding photos here, about a third of them are his. I am still limiting my couples to one a month this year, Marius is doing about the same. What’s good is we’ll still be shooting for each other in each other’s weddings and we can’t wait to get started!

Last bit o’news: Marius and I have re-doubled our efforts to improve as photographers this year and in the coming year – it’s straightforward to spend $$$$ on new equipment, we’re doing that , but we’re also investing $$$$ in training and education. For the past year (plus) we’ve been mentoring with the best wedding photographers in the world – associated with the Foundation Conference and Workshops, our mentors are recognized worldwide in their talent and ability. We understand the responsibility entailed in covering your day and the trust you’ve placed in us, we feel you deserve professional results. It will be interesting to see how much we improve this year

Katie and Neal met on a blind-double-date turned single-blind-date in Galveston, love bloomed in the sunset along the Galveston bay and the rest is history!

Neal, a real man’s man, doesn’t like to admit his heart went pitter-patter on that first eventful date, but Katie was all abuzz with the story when we met recently back at the scene of cri… er, where they met and where Neal proposed.

The Colonel Paddle Wheel boat played a significant role in their love lives – it’s where the sunset cruise that eventful first date ignited the spark and later, in the shadow of the paddle wheeler and Moody Garden pyramids, Neal proposed this past Fall.

Needless to say, Galveston Island, with the Strand and beaches, holds a special place in their hearts.

If you’ve been reading these pages for a while, you know how much I prefer to photograph couples in their own environment, places that mean something to them as a couple. Getting in line with the hundred other couples in front of the waterfall at the local park just isn’t me – these mean *so* much more when we can take a part of their lives together and entwine them into their photos. So you know I was happy to hear we would be spending most of our time in and around Rachel and Cody’s new home in Nederland! Their first home together as a couple will mean so much to them over the years coming…

We spent time around Nederland itself as well, all within a mile or so of their home:

The Spring is going to fly by, we’ll be seeing this cute couple again very soon!

When you begin an engagement session standing in an alley covered in beer bottle caps, you can expect just about anything to happen!

No, I’m not talking about Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street, I don’t think there’s enough money to get me back there on a Fat Tuesday. I’m talking about the infamous Bottle Cap Alley on University Drive in College Station – this is the location of our start in Kati and Andrew’s recent engagement session.

Kati, the owner of the bubbliest personality I know, met Andrew while they were both Aggie students – love at first bite (they met in the SBISA dining hall ).

Love blossomed, as it tends to do in Aggie Land, and they were soon engaged to be married under the Century Tree.

Oh, I love the moment of panic in a person’s eyes when they realize they are walking through someone’s photo

I actually took another, but it’s funny when people react like they’re stepping on hot coals

We spent the afternoon traveling around all their old haunts – Kyle Field, the Century Tree and places in between.

Too much fun! We stayed at Kyle Field until it was too dark to see anymore – they were having fun, I was really enjoying hearing their stories of how they met, began dating and eventually engaged – Kati usually punctuating the stories with her giggles

We’ll be seeing more of these two love birds soon.

We began back where Jared worked his plan to propose to Annie this past Easter – in his family’s garden, surrounded by orange trees, moscato grape vines, and the sweet sweet hint of love in the air

After professing his love once again, Jared led Annie over to his grandpa’s nearby tractor – “someday this will all be yours!”

(or at least that’s what I imagined he would be telling her, though I don’t really think they were caring at this point what I was thinking )

After drying off and changing clothes we spend a little time in the woods before heading to downtown Orange and shooting around the Lutcher Theater and riverside parks:

Great afternoon

It’s always more fun when we can personalize our time together using places that really mean something to them as a couple.

Annie’s bridal images will be posted after their Galveston wedding, coming up in just a couple of very short months!

It really was difficult to get them to let go of each other once in a while (which really is perfect for engagement photos ).

The above is one of my favorites from the whole day, from the color and foreground framing to the expression and the semi-hidden clutching going on

We had a lot of fun shooting around Beaumont, from there we headed over to Raos Bakery – a place Meagan and Ryder like to hang out in. I *love* when we get to photograph in places that mean something to them as a couple, it just means *so* much more to them in the future when they look back and ‘remember when’ . We began with hot chocolate, two bar stools and a window:

… then moved to the patio area. This one seemed so New Orlean’s-like, lit by the overhead light and framed by window panes

Awwwww! I’m not sure if we’re allowed back at Rao’s, but that was a lot of fun!
