Beaumont Events – Bicycles and Bibles

Earlier today I had the distinct privilege of taking part in the Bicycles and Bibles event at Ford Park Arena here in Beaumont. Sponsored by the Reaud Foundation, Academy Sports, Power Castle Ministries, Cotton Cargo and a host of other foundations, churches, and restaurants, this annual event now entering its 10th year gives away 1,000+ bikes, Bibles, balls, backpacks, and toys to needy children in the area. Among my friends volunteering at the event were Kelly Johnston for the Reaud Foundation, Karen Kessinger, Jason Richards, associate pastor for Christian Fellowship Worship Center and Dustin Cowart, pastor for Asylum Youth Ministries. 🙂

Note: If you are viewing this on our Facebook page, the images are much nicer on the actual blog post.

Thousands of children, parents and volunteers were in attendance in what eventually became standing-room only, eating thousands of pizzas, corn dogs (mmmm :)) and ice cream:

I was there to photograph Pastor Craig Larson of Power Castle Ministries and his team perform their puppet shows and human videos, something he and his family have been doing full-time for years here in some of Beaumont’s less fortunate neighborhoods. It was a blast!

Months and months of work goes into the planning and pulling off of such an event, but to see the joy in the eyes of the little ones as they peddle out with their new bicycle and toys for Christmas makes it all worthwhile 🙂

Jesus, the reason for the season. 🙂
